Let's Thank Gov. Bill Richardson for crossing the Clintons to support Obama

Mon Mar 24, 2008 at 03:52:47 PM PDT

Bill and Hill have been the top dogs in the democratic party since Bills first win 16 years ago.  The rumors we insiders in our little upstate NY democratic county chairperson & the envelope lickers (myself) are shocking.  Apparently a favorite Democratic congressman who was going to come out for Obama months ago received a call from Bill Clinton and shut up immediately and stayed undecided.  This guy is no shrinking violet, he was against the war before it was popular, he is an absolute progressive democrat, he was thought of as fearless.. but apparently the Clintons strike some serious fear or he would not be undecided today.... and TODAY is when Obama could use the support.  Since the press got a hand slap from the very hip and cool 'Saturday night live', not one week but 2 weeks in a row, Hillary can now do no wrong.  It seems Hillary has taken the victim roll to an art form.

This issue of pressure on the Super Delegates is not theoretical, this IS happening as we sit and watch the bashing of Richardson.  So hey, I think we should send a thousand thank you emails to Bill Richardson, the man who said ENOUGH!  Why did Bill Clinton invited himself into Richardson's superbowl party when it was rumored Richardson was ready to endorse Obama ..... my guess???  To squeeze his coconuts.

Clinton has turned into some bullying, rude kind of ego maniac who plans on either pressuring the Super Delegates into supporting Hillary or bloodying Obama beyond recognition... so that If Hillary doesn't run.... their  new BFF, John McCain, can win and Hillary can run against him in 4 years.

So, for Governor Bill Richardson, this great guy who decided to cross Billy Clintons line in the sand and come out for Obama, even as the Clinton camp throw disgraceful words at him, Governor Bill Richardson has decided to stand up and say  ENOUGH, ENOUGH!  Tell Bill Richardson just how much we appreciate him, let him know that the cowards in the Clinton camp beat up him, we love him YES, we need people like Richardson.  Email him:

http://www.governor.state.nm.us/...

This is it people.  The next few weeks will decide who is running against McCain, let those who are afraid of getting their head bit off by the Clintons.... please.  Richardson is trying to end this bloody civil war inside the Democratic party.... before Hillary turns off the hundreds of thousands of new voters, turns off much of the African Americans and other grassroot democrats to stay home on election day.  Bill Clinton's enlarged ego has become more than the party can carry.

  •  Yes! I always liked Richardson. (3+ / 0-)

He was a bit too awkward in the debates to really make it as the candidate, but the dude is right a lot of the time.

Now is the time for all real democrats to come to the aid of their party, and support Obama.

The Clintons didn't have to go here, but they did, and they should be ostracized for it.

    McCain is a Chode.

  •  Did it on day one (0+ / 0-)

after Richardson endorsed.  It took courage.  The Clintons are not just fighting for the nomination -- they are fighting to maintain their position of leadership in the party.   Obama represents the party's future, not Clinton.

  •  The Clinton camp did the same (0+ / 0-)

to Kerry and Kennedy when they endorsed Obama.  Do super-delegates who fear the wrath of Clinton too much to endorse Obama deserve their positions?  DEM weenies aren't any better than GOP weenies, and both produce bad government policies.

  •  Already have today, (0+ / 0-)

This is what I said, essentially:

    Dear Governor Richardson:

First, I'd like to thank you for your wonderful endorsement of Senator Barack Obama for the Democratic nomitation for President of the United States.  Your speech was moving, upbeat and inspirational.  It certainly reminded me of why I am proud to be a Democrat, which has not happened very much lately.  My apologies for not writing to thank you and congratulate you sooner.

Now, onto the reason for my latest email here.  In your speech, you called for other Democratic party leaders to "get behind the nominee" so we can focus on Sen. John McCain.  Governor, I am asking for your help again.  Please contact other Superdelegates, and ask them to get behind Sen. Obama, PLEASE!!!!!  Again, this is not about "I want my candidate to win."

As we have seen throughout this campaign, Senator Hillary Clinton will do anything -- ANYTHING -- to win this nomination, EVEN IF IT MEANS DESTROYING THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY.  She does not care.  She does not deny "floating" the Rev. Wright controversy in order to make Sen. Obama, "unelectable," and she has even coddled Sen. McCain.  I believe her tact now, realizing she cannot win the nomination (unless she STEALS it) is to damage Sen. Obama for the general election, help get Sen. McCain elected, and then do a "See?  I told you so," when the election is over.  It is mind boggling that this strategy is coming from a Democrat.

The longer this goes on, her "scorched earth, 'kitchen sink'" strategy, the more it damages our chances to retake the White House in November and really change the direction of this country.  You know this, you spoke about this.  Please Governor -- your help, and your influence is needed NOW.  This should not go on much longer, and should not wait until Pennsylvania, because we will hear more lies and "rationales" as to why the DNC rules -- that Sen. Clinton AGREED to back when she was the presumptive nominee, should no longer apply.  It's called "moving the goal post."  It's ridiculous.  And as I have stated before, a Clinton nomination will depress turnout of Democrats in November, and cause Republicans to turn out IN DROVES at the ballot box to vote against her.  And, I and many like me, will not only sit out the election, but may quit the Party.

Please Governor -- for the sake of our Party and our Country, don't let this happen.  Please help convince the Superdelegates to support Sen. Obama.  Thank you for listening.

I left out the point that I think she is looking to 2012, darn it, but I think he knows the Clintons well enough to read between the lines.

Is it any wonder they are all afraid to come out for Obama?

  •  Carville vs Clinton (1+ / 0-)

The absurdity of Carville's comment is even more astounding when one looks at the context:

Hillary has stated that the Super delegates should exercise INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT. How the heck can Richardson be a Judas if he exercised independent judgement? Hillary has never stated that the super delegates should make their decision based on perceived debts to a certain candidate.

So, Carville is contradicting Hillary herself. Maybe the Clinton campaign should once again tell us what they think the purpose of the super delegates is?

but I have one point to quibble with, Clinton didn't turn into a rude bullying egomaniac, etc etc, he was that way when he ran for president.  Slick Willy wasn't a compliment but it was accurate.

The Clintons demand unwavering loyalty without offering it in return.  Richardson deserves praise for his decision.  People want examples of patriotism and courage, his actions exemplify them, stand up and be heard even when you know that it will cost you.   I don't live in New Mexico, I can't vote for him, but I would be proud to support him if he were VP or nominated for Secretary of State, etc.

The Clintons are trying to "strong arm" Super-delegates the same way they tried to strong armed donors at the start of their campaign. At that time, they told all their donors, "We better not catch you donating to anyone else."

  •  Carville just called it an "egregious act" (1+ / 0-)

To follow up on his Judas line.

His message clearly is: "You don't cross the Clintons."

I think your diary should read:

Lets Thank Richardson for choosing to support Obama to help bridge the Democratic Party over loyalty for the Clintons.

I don't think Richardson Crossed the Clintons.  It seems pretty divisive.  We need Clinton supporters to see the light and we would like to welcome them over to the Obama bandwagon.  Just because someone supports Obama it should not mean that they have to cross Hillary.  I am afraid people might not come over to Obama if it feels like a betrayal over the Clintons.
